Dear High School General Chemistry Teacher:
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has broken new ground in funding the
development of instructional materials that teach high school students about
nanoscale science! Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning
(McREL), in partnership with the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF) and
ASPEN Associates, was awarded an NSF grant to develop and evaluate a set of
nanoscale science instructional materials for use at the high school level.
We are URGENTLY seeking a few more Chemistry teachers from public high
schools to participate as control schools in this nationwide field test of
the NanoLeap Chemistry curriculum module. This project is taking place as
you read this. Teachers needed NOW!
If you have at least two years of experience teaching high school
science;
Are teaching at a public high school (no charter or alternative schools);
Are teaching a first year chemistry (or related) course which is not
Advanced Placement or Honors.
Teachers receive a $100 stipend, the data from the field test and the
Nanoleap Lesson Plans for your help.
THIS INVOLVES DATA COLLECTION ONLY (Pre and Post test, Student and
Teachers survey) NO CURRICULUM CHANGES NEEDED
If you are interested, please contact us ASAP Please respond privately to
Suzanne Joyce at sjoyce at aspenassociates.org. Or call (952) 837-6256 and
Suzanne will take your information over the phone.
We can accept more than one teacher in a school, since there are no
curriculum changes involved. We hope you and/or a colleague will join us as
we support the National Science Foundation in moving towards a new frontier
in education!
Sincerely,
Elisabeth Palmer, Ph.D.
