Subject: 2008 Summer SBA Development Activities: Teachers Needed!
Dear Colleagues: Please share this information with your principals and
other instructional leaders:
The New Mexico Public Education Department and Pearson Assessment will
convene committees of educators to participate in four different
activities this summer.
Participants for the committees will be selected to best represent the
state's diverse ethnic groups, urban and rural areas, and according to
individual experience and background. All committees, except for the
Science Alignment Study, will meet at the Marriott Pyramid North, 5151
San Francisco Road N.E. in Albuquerque on the following dates:
SBA workshops to apply for now:
1. Item Review: June 9-13, 2008
2. Data Review: July 14-18 (Grades 3-8), and July 21-23, 2008
(Grade 11 Spanish Science only)
* 8-10 participants will be needed for each grade
band (3-5, 6-8, and 11) per content area (English and Spanish) for the
Item and Data Review Committees.
3. Writing Standard Setting: August 4-8, 2008
* 12-15 participants will be needed for each grade band (3-5,
6-8, and 11) in Spanish and English.
Save the date:
4. In addition, PED will be recruiting separately for the SBA
Science Alignment Study which will occur on July 8-10. This activity is
sponsored by PED only; it is not a Pearson-contracted activity.
* 24 participants will be needed: 8 for grades 3-5; 8 for grades
6-8; and 8 for grade 11.
Qualifications:
Participants are expected to be well prepared in the content areas for
which they sign up and must have a minimum of five years experience in
the classroom and no fewer than three years teaching in that area. Once
selected, participants must provide evidence of their supervisor's
approval as part of the formal enrollment process. The supervisor could
be the applicant's District Superintendent, Program Director, or
Principal.
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided for all participants, as
well as mileage between their homes and the hotel. Participants living
more than 50 miles from the hotel who request accommodations will be
provided lodging and up to $15 for dinner for the nights in attendance.
In addition, participants (who are not under contract) will receive a
stipend of $100 per day.
Attendance:
Selected participants must commit to attending all of the days required
for the grade band. Please note that Item Reviews are shorter than in
the past. Data Reviews and Writing Standard Setting will occur over
multiple days.
Interested applicants are asked to complete the electronic Educational
Professional Participation Form at the following link:
http://www.gotoaconference.com/sepp/
The deadline for the on-line application is May 16. Notifications of
selection will be made by May 30 or shortly thereafter. Please include
an email address or other contact information that you monitor during
the summer.
We thank you for your continued interest and assistance in this
important educational initiative. Taking part in Item Review, Data
Review, and Writing Standard Setting are great professional development
activities and a great service to the New Mexico education community.
