What are MEMS and Microsystems and What Will You Learn?

Microsystems, also called MEMS, are small and have tiny moving parts. They
are more than computer chips

which move only electrons. Where are MEMS found? In just about everything:
controllers for your video games,

crash sensors in your car, ink jet printers, million mirror DLP displays,
artificial noses, and even in tiny medical

sensors and actuators that go inside your body! MEMS make nanotechnology
work; hundreds of companies are

designing and making these small systems. Learn how these are designed and
made, where they are used and

how you can ride this wave into the future!

What's a hybrid course? Part online and part face to face:

Flexible course and designed to fit your schedule; study when you choose.

We will meet in the MEMS Design classroom and in a real MEMS laboratory 7
Saturdays throughout the semester;

8:00am to 12:00pm each time - you still get Saturday afternoons off! These
labs will give you a chance to do

"hands on" activities including making your own crystal wafer design which
you can keep. Work together with

a friend; the online part includes all lectures (narrated - you can download
these), animations, discussion boards,

online chats, and internet research. Matt Pleil, recognized by former
students as an "amazing instructor" will be

available for extra help every Saturday throughout the semester as well as
online, in person and by phone.
