Radiation & Nuclear Energy

Hosted by the National Atomic Museum and 

Trinity Section of the American Nuclear Society  

Saturday, December 6, 2008     8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


Location: National Atomic Museum - 1905 Mountain Road, Albuquerque, NM  Old Town Area

Free of charge & free classroom-ready materials:
Multi-faceted curricula from National Laboratories and Research Centers
Presentations on:       
        Basic nuclear physics and radiation detection
        Natural and background radiation sources 
        Radioactive materials, transportation and disposal
        Uranium Mining, Milling, and Radon 
        Nuclear power 
Hands-on radiation education activities:  
        It's everywhere  "Personal Dose Estimate"
        Nuclear Contrails  "The Cloud Chamber"
        Detecting the unseen  "Mystery Boxes"

Handouts will include curriculum materials, presentation materials, radioactive rocks and resource lists of Web, people, organizations, and agency contacts. 
Presenters come from a wide variety of backgrounds and work or have worked in nuclear fields. The workshop is geared to fully prepare mid to high school science teachers to teach topics related to radiation.
