The following information is not related to a Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program, but may be of interest to potential Fulbright applicants, grantees, alumni and the education community.  Please contact the Graduate School, USDA* directly if you are interested.
  Taiwan/American Teacher Exchange
  The Graduate School, USDA is accepting applications from certified teachers who are interested in teaching in primary and middle schools for one academic year in Taiwan on a new program currently being planned in the U.S. by the Graduate School, USDA and in Taiwan by the Ministry of Education. Pending final program approval by authorities in both countries, accepted teachers would travel to Taiwan in August 2009 and teach in a Taiwanese school until the following year.
  FOCUS/OBJECTIVES:
  Selected applicants will serve as visiting teachers in Taiwanese schools and shall be employed for one year in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience, and teaching techniques.
  DATES:
  All application material and supporting documents must be submitted by February 15, 2009 in order to be considered eligible for the program. During March, candidates for the exchange will be interviewed. Following this, selection, rejection, and alternate letters will be sent to the prospective applicants to notify them of their acceptance to the program pending placement and funding abroad. Teachers will be asked to make a decision to accept or decline their placement by around end-May 2009. Teachers selected for the program will depart for Taiwan in late August 2009 and return in July 2010.
  ELIGIBILITY:
      All teachers must have completed a university degree program, hold at least a bachelor&rsquo;s degree, and be certified to teach by State Education Authorities in the United States for teaching Grades 1-6 or teaching English in 7-9 (a degree diploma and a teacher certificate or teacher qualification relevant certificates).
      All applicants must be physically and mentally healthy and, after receiving a notice of acceptance, demonstrate good health through by relevant health examinations.
      Applicants must never have been convicted of a criminal offense by any court in the US.
      Applicants must be competent in interpersonal communication skills, as well as demonstrate intercultural competence.
      Applicants must demonstrate understanding and be respectful of local culture and commit themselves to abide by the laws and regulations of Taiwan.
      Good pronunciation of standard English necessary for teaching English is a requirement of this program.
      Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in teaching English as a native language or teaching English as a second language.
      Teachers must not have reached their 65th birthday to be eligible for this program (Age of mandatory retirement in Taiwan is 65).
  SALARY:
  Applicants must take a year of sabbatical from their home school. They will be paid their salary by their hosting school in Taiwan.
  Monthly salary for holders of Bachelor&rsquo;s degrees: NT$60,870 - 75,770
  Monthly salary for holders of Master&rsquo;s degrees: NT$67,925 - 84,290
  Monthly salary for holders of Doctoral degrees: NT$70,895 - 88,755
  1 USD = 32.478 NT$ (NT$ stands for New Taiwan dollars)

  Fifty U.S. Teachers
